Nsawam-Suhum

Fifteen passengers were injured in an accident at Kyerewere, along the Nsawam-Suhum road, involving a sprinter vehicle travelling from Kumasi to Accra.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the sprinter, which was reportedly overspeeding, veered off the road after the driver attempted to apply the brakes upon realizing a tyre had burst.

The force of the sudden manoeuvre caused the vehicle to lose control, with three people falling onto the road. One woman’s leg became trapped between the car’s doors during the incident.

Of the 15 passengers, three were in critical condition and were rushed to the hospital, with one person reportedly in critical condition. There are also unconfirmed reports that the vehicle’s mate may have lost his life in the crash, but this has yet to be verified.

A witness, who was at the scene, recounted: “I was eating when I heard the loud sound of a tyre burst. When I went to check, I saw it was a sprinter. Due to the overspeeding, the driver lost control while trying to stop the vehicle, and three passengers were thrown from the car.

“I quickly rushed to help one woman whose leg was trapped between the doors. The vehicle was speeding from Kumasi to Accra, and the tyre burst causing it to veer into the bush.”

The police are currently on-site, managing the situation and conducting investigations.
