Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has unveiled plans to develop the Cape Coast Airport if elected president in the December polls
Addressing the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia announced that a $2 billion fund has been secured from Korean investors to commence the development of the facility.
Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of expanding public infrastructure, outlining his government’s vision to transform Ghana’s aviation sector.
He pledged to facilitate the establishment of a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Tamale Airport, positioning it as an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub.
In addition to the Cape Coast Airport development, Dr. Bawumia promised to build a new airport in the Upper East Region, further demonstrating his commitment to enhancing Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and promoting economic growth.
“[I will] Facilitate the establishment, by the private sector, of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Tamale Airport, to develop it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub, commence the development of the Cape Coast Airport, for which funding has been secured under the Korean $2 billion facility, in collaboration with the private sector, build an airport in the Upper East Region.”
