2022 World Cup: President Akufo-Addo Wants Black Stars Technical Team Maintained

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has directed the Ghana Football Association to maintain the Black Stars technical team led by Otto Addo for the 2022 World Cup.

The President made mention of this during his address to the team at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday afternoon.

According to him, the Ghana Football Association should keep the technical team at least until the World Cup before appointing a new coach for the long term.

The current technical team was formed after Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Football Association  appointed Borussia Dortmund trainer Otto Addo and he was assisted by Aston Villa U19 coach George Boateng and former Nordsjælland assistant coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

Former Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton was appointed as Technical Advisor to the newly constituted Black Stars Technical team led by Otto Addo.

The four man team was put together to take charge of the two matches against rivals Nigeria in the World Cup playoffs.

Following a series of improved performances from the Black Stars team in the two-legged encounter, the Head of State wants the Football Association to only consider appointing a new coach after the World Cup.

Meanwhile, The Ministry for Youth and Sports has commended President Nana Akuffo-Addo and Ghanaians for their unflinching support to the Black Stars after securing the 2022 World Cup qualification.

The Black Stars qualified for the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar following a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the second leg of the World Cup playoff in Abuja on Tuesday night.

Ghana defied all odds to pick one of the five tickets to represent Africa at the World Cup tournament.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is grateful to President Nana Akufo-Addo for leading the charge in soliciting support for the senior national team for the World Cup qualifiers.

The Ministry also thanked Ghanaians for the massive support they showed to the team in the two-legged encounter which also played a vital role in the team’s qualification.
