The security arrangements implemented by the Ghana Police Service during the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) deserve commendation.
Notably, police presence was evident at all visited BECE centers, showcasing their commitment to maintaining order, preventing disruptions, and curbing any illegal activities.
During our examination of various BECE centers, police officers, equipped with walkie-talkies (handheld transceivers) and mobile phones, were observed ensuring the security of the premises. However, one particular police officer stood out due to his comprehensive preparedness and equipment.
At the PRESEC Staff Basic School BECE center in Accra on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, a police officer exhibited an exceptional level of preparedness. He was adorned with a helmet featuring integrated security cameras and torch lights, a police vest adorned with various items, gloves, and additional equipment.
Despite initial concerns from BECE officials that the officer’s highly equipped appearance might intimidate the students, he carried out his duties with a welcoming demeanor.
The 2023 BECE is anticipated to conclude on Friday, August 11, 2023, with students completing their final paper in French. Approximately 600,000 candidates from nearly 19,000 schools across Ghana participated in the examination at 2,137 designated centers.
Throughout the week, students undertook a series of papers, including Religious and Moral Education, English Language, Ghanaian Language and Culture, General Science, Social Studies, Basic Design and Technology, Mathematics, and Information and Communication Technology.
