The Ashanti Regional Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abass Nurudeen insists that former president John Dramani Mahama remains the most formidable candidate to give the party an easy and seamless victory in 2024.
According to Abass Nurudeen, NDC will present former President John Dramani Mahama as their flagbearer in the 2024 elections to secure victory for the party.
The Economist Intelligence Unit(EIU) in the current report on the 2024 elections said “The next parliamentary and presidential elections are due in 2024. Under the constitutionally mandated term limits, Mr. Akufo Addo cannot run for a third term. Mr Mahama is reportedly considering whether to run again, but we expect the NDC to seek to revitalize its prospects with a fresh candidate. After two terms of NPP government, we expect the NDC to win the 2024 presidential election and gain a small majority in parliament.”
Responding to the EIU report on elections 2024, the Ashanti Regional Communication Director of NDC Abass Nurudeen said “EIU report has been deliberately misinterpreted to mean that the NDC cannot with 2024 with former President John Dramani Mahama”
“It appears a lot of media men and women in Ghana do not take time to verify or double-check pieces of information thrown at them from multiple sources. So whatever information is thrown out there is latched upon, especially when it is skewed against the NDC”
According to Abass Nurudeen “, one of such instances is the spin some media men, whether by sheer design or out of genuine lack of information, are trying to put on the EIU report on the 2024 elections. How any journalist worth his salt can interpret this to mean that NDC can only win 2024 with a fresh candidate remains a semantic mystery yet to be understood”.
Abass Nurudeen said “The EIU expects the NDC to win the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections regardless of which candidate it presents”
“The main reason why the EIU expects the NDC to win the 2024 elections is because of the 8-year political cycle that has been ingrained in the psychology of the voter population in Ghana. And that NDC’s margin of victory in 2024 will be further enhanced if a new candidate is chosen”
“Per the 2020 Presidential election results, President Mahama had almost a 1.5Million votes more than his vote tally in the 2016 elections, even after all the vote-buying gimmicks of the Akufo Addo govt and the rigging machine that was set in motion by the Jean Mensah-led EC. This makes him NDC’s surest bet for victory 2024”
Abass Nurudeen added that “This also discounts the claim by EIU that NDC’s chances of winning the 2024 elections will be revitalized by presenting a fresh candidate as unscientific and not borne out by verifiable data”
“So what the EIU report is saying, essentially, is that NDC will win 2024 with or without Mahama because NPP has been in power for 8 years. But the victory could be bigger with a fresh candidate”
