The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has instructed all charging companies to rectify any incorrect deductions now that the E-levy has been implemented.
The disputed electronic levy started today, Sunday, May 1, 2022. Money moved between mobile money or bank accounts will be charged a 1.5 percent.
To this purpose, the GRA has established administrative standards to assure the E-levy success.
“Following the Ghana Revenue Authority’s evaluation of selected Charging Entities’ general preparedness to connect with the E-levy Management System,” the GRA stated in a statement.
The Authority also encouraged all charging organizations to quickly rectify any erroneous deductions.
The yearly e-levy prediction has been reduced to GHS4.5 billion. The GRA attributes the lower forecast to Ghanaians’ anxiety over the fee.
Reverend Dr Ammisshaddai Owusu-Amoah, GRA Commissioner-General, told the Daily Graphic that the 1.5% cut is also a consideration.
Dr Owusu-Amoah noted that an internal GRA poll had suggested that electronic transactions would stall initially before catching up.
He predicted that once individuals got acclimated to the tax, transactions will stabilize. He asked the people to consider the ease given by digital transactions, citing the government’s several exemptions.
He also encouraged the people to contribute to nation-building by paying the charge.
