Charles Taylor, a Ghanaian football great, has criticised Bernard Don Bortey for attending Asante Kotoko’s victory celebrations.
After a 3-0 victory over Elmina Sharks in week 33 at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Porcupine Warriors were declared the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League champions.
Nevertheless, Hearts of Oak legend, Don Bortey, attended the festivities of Kotoko’s legends and also hoisted their flag in front of the supporters.
In the opinion of Charles Taylor, who has played for both Hearts and Kotoko, Bortey’s actions were uncalled for, and his transfer to Kotoko was preferable to this one because of the latter’s gain.
“Because I was on both teams, but not Don Bortey. I’m qualified to do so. He’s welcome to come to the stadium and see them, but he’s not allowed to participate in the festivities by raising their flag.
“Because Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are competitors, it is rude to witness one legend celebrate with the other. In spite of the fact that I was invited to the game and had money provided to me, I was unable to attend because we were playing a legendary game.”
“Amankwah Mireku has my full support. He should be ashamed of himself for what he done. There is nothing wrong with praising Asante Kotoko on winning the league, but joining their celebrations wasn’t the finest idea.
“I don’t think Hearts of Oak supporters will be forgiving of him if he apologizes for his actions. At least Hearts of Oak benefited from my move to Kotoko, so it’s not like that for Bortey. The celebrations with Kotoko made no sense at all”, he insisted.
