Stop twerking on social media and focus on your work – Bono GRNMA advises nurses and midwives

Nursing and midwifery professionals have been warned not to abuse social media by refraining from twerking or promoting themselves as available for marriage by Bono Region Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Mad. Emily Ama Oduro.

It was her plea that they use the beneficial features of social media to educate the public about health concerns. International Nurses Day was celebrated in Sunyani this year and she gave a speech.

An international nurse’s day event titled “Nurses and Midwives: A voice to lead, investing in nurses and respecting nurses’ right to safeguard global health” was held this year.

In attendance were nurses from Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East (BABE) areas. An important aspect of the ritual was the lighting of candles by the nurses in honour of Florence Nightingale, the modern-day pioneer of nursing, who tended to injured troops at night during the Crimean War in 1853-1856 with her lamp.

Emily Ama Oduro, the Bono Region’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, raised concern about certain bad attitudes, such as nurses twerking in uniform, and complained that the tendency is diminishing respect for the nursing profession in an interview on the sidelines of the celebration.

However, Bono East’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Joyce Eshun, feels that nurses must improve themselves and focus the requirements of their patients in order to keep up with the times.

GRNMA Regional Chairman Fedelis Atibila, on the other hand, has urged the government to look at the conditions of service for nurses in the BABE regions in an effort to stem the flow of nurses out of the country.

Nurses who excelled in their areas were recognized with certificates. With Sunyani West’s Boakyewaa Ako Sara emerged as the top nurse in the BABE regions.
