Liverpool have thrashed newly promoted Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield to equal the biggest victory in Premier League history. Manchester United and Leicester City are the other two teams to have achieved such feat.
The Reds went into the game with only two points out of a possible nine — having lost one and drawn two of their last three games — They responded in stunning fashion by battering Bournemouth from pillar to post and from start to finish.
The hosts hit the ground running from the outset with two quick goals from Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliot. Diaz finished with a thumping header while Elliot curled in an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
Full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold whip in a ferocious long ranger into the top corner before Roberto Firmino who assisted all three goals acrobatically converted from inside the six-yard-box with Virgil Van Dyke heading home the fifth to end the first half in grand style.
The second half couldn’t have been any better for Scott Parker and his charges. Chris Mepham scored an own goal before Firmino poke home the seventh after a fortunate deflection.
Fabio Cavalho finished a fantastic volley to open his Liverpool account and the eighth of the evening while Diaz headed in the ninth to completed the humiliation.
Thus the Reds have reacted perfectly to the uncharacteristic slump that preceded their opening three games of the season.
