Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has been included in Arsenal’s squad to face North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the news during his pre-match interview on Friday ahead of the local derby. “We just finished the last training session, we had many players arriving yesterday so we had a short period to prepare the match but the boys look in good condition.”
Partey was included in Ghana’s squad to face Brazil and Nicaragua in Pre-World Cup friendlies during the international break but pulled out during a warm up session just when Ghana was about to take on Brazil in France. Ghana lost the game 3-0.
Ghana coach Otto Addo later confirmed that the midfielder’s exclusion was only a precautionary measure.
Partey would later fly back to London on Sunday missing the next Black Stars game against Nicaragua on Tuesday. Ghana won the game 1-0 courtesy of Fatawu Issahaku’s first half strike.
As things stand, the 29-year-old is in pole position to feature for Arsenal this weekend as the Gunners look to maintain their top spot, a decision which has left many Ghanaians surprised.
