During his time as a cast member of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith remembers pleading with NBA legend Michael Jordan for a new pair of sneakers.
The West Philly native stated he would always beg the Hall of Famer to lace him up with the most recent pair of Air Jordan sneakers before anyone else got their hands on them on the most recent episode of the All The Smoke podcast with former NBA players Matt Barnes and Steven Jackson.
Smith claimed that when donning the cool outfits he would rock, he had no notion what he was doing for the culture; all he cared about was looking the coolest.
“I was living the culture,” Smith said. “I was literally calling Jordan like ‘Mike, please, please don’t give it to nobody. Just let me be the first person, I gotta be the first person to wear it’. And he was like ‘Man, I don’t run that.’”
