A retired Appeals Court judge, Justice Isaac Delali Douse, has questioned the prosecutorial prowess of the head of the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to him, Mr Kissi Agyebeng is not qualified to be appointed the head of the agency for prosecuting corruption and corruption-related cases in the country.
He said the OSP by practice is not a prosecutor but a defense lawyer.
He explained that Mr Agyebeng has no single history of prosecution attached to his name.
He further explained that the office must be mounted by a person who has a knack for prosecution “and ought not to be appointed the OSP in the first place.” he added.
The retired justice of the Appeals Court said this while speaking in a one-on-one interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on February 13, 2023.
“The office should have been mounted by a person with the qualifications of a Chief State Attorney or a Principal Attorney.
He noted that in the same vein, just like Kiisi Agyebeng, Martin Amidu was also not qualified to assume the Office of Special Prosecutor in the first place.
The two individuals have no history of prosecution.
Ideally, the OSP should be mounted by a seasoned State Attorney and not defense lawyers,” he further said.
He was quick to add that as it stands now it is the usual job for the boys.
