Lionel Messi has been named The Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2022 during a ceremony in Paris, France on Monday evening.
He beat 2022 Balon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and teammate Kylian Mbappe to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award for a record seventh time, the most by any player.
He also spearheaded the FIFPRO Men’s World11 alongside Kylian Mbappe, Achraf Hakimi, Benzema, Haaland, Luka Modric et al.
The Argentine superstar led his country to win their elusive third FIFA World Cup in Qatar and his blistering performances with Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1 sets him apart.
Mbappe was tipped to win the award at the expense of Messi given his goal scoring exploits for the French national team and at club level but losing the World Cup to Argentina obviously dwindled his chances.
