Transfer Talk: All the latest Mane news in bite-sized chunks

Mane

Sadio Mane looks set for a move away from Bayern Munich after just one season in Germany.

Mane, 31, signed from Liverpool in a £35million deal last summer but has struggled to make an impact in the Bundesliga, scoring seven goals and producing five assists.

Bayern won their 11th consecutive title in dramatic style but manager Thomas Tuchel is still keen to revamp his squad after a relatively underwhelming season.

Mane could be one of those he looks to sell — and a move back to the Premier League may be on the cards.

June 5: Bayern’s Newcastle hope

Bayern Munich are hopeful of convincing Mane to leave the club, according to Sport1 in Germany.

The Bavarians are aware of interest from Newcastle and aim to persuade the Senegalese forward to move to Tyneside after one disappointing season at the club.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring an elite forward to St James’ Park as the Magpies prepare for Champions League football next season.

May 27: Broken relationship

Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus says signing Mane was a mistake.

The 62-year-old, who played over 400 matches for the club, said: “Maybe this relationship was one of the many mistakes Bayern has done in the last 12 months.

“I don’t see him staying at the club beyond the end of this season.”

May 17: ‘Can’t see it’

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy claims that the club should not attempt to re-sign Mane from Bayern.

The Reds have recruited Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo since allowing the Champions League winner to depart last summer and Murphy believes there should be no way back.

He said: “I think the fans would take him, but they have five or six forwards and this is a chunk of their budget on a player and position they don’t need.”

May 16: ‘Candidate for sale’

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Bayern will listen to offers for Mane this summer — and expects Newcastle to be interested.

Plettenberg said: “Right now, this is not the Sadio Mane from Liverpool. He has not got the same speed, his body language is very bad.”

The journalist added: “Newcastle are very flexible on the left and Mane could certainly help there. I think Newcastle could be a very, very hot option.”
