Education is life and death – Olusegun Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo

The former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has underscored the significance of prioritising education as a fundamental need in every country.

Speaking at the Presidential Media Briefing on Foundational Learning in Sub-Saharan Africa, organised by Human Capital Africa (HCA) in Accra, the politician emphasised that education is crucial and described it as a matter of survival.

He asserted that a country cannot be fully developed if its people are uneducated.

“For me, education is a matter of life and death because if you do not have it, you cannot develop your innate ability…” he said.

Olusegun Obasanjo further stressed the lifelong significance of education, stating it is not a short-term concern but a lifelong venture essential for personal and societal development.

“I emphasise [a] life of education. Education is from the cradle to [the] grave, and it’s not a one-year issue; it’s not a ten-year issue. It’s a life issue”, Olusegun Obasanjo noted.
