NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has voiced apprehension over the lackadaisical approach taken by President Akufo-Addo’s appointees towards the ongoing campaign efforts.
Frimpong highlighted that these appointees have shown disconnection from the core campaign objective of “breaking the 8,” signaling a worrying trend within the party’s ranks.
Specifically pointing out appointees from the NPP stronghold of Bono Region, where the party traditionally secures significant parliamentary seats and votes, Frimpong lamented that some have distanced themselves from grassroots campaign activities.
During his tour of the region, Frimpong expressed disappointment in unnamed appointees who have shifted their focus away from campaign duties, leaving the crucial groundwork to party members at the grassroots level.
Expressing his discontent, Frimpong urged these appointees to swiftly re-engage in campaign efforts to avoid public scrutiny and potential repercussions for their lack of involvement.
Taking to social media on Saturday, August 10, in a post captioned “Regional tour updates,” Frimpong warned, “Feedback from my tour of the Bono Region shows that some appointees have lost touch with their base. Don’t force me to start mentioning names; do the needful.”
The post garnered extensive responses from concerned party supporters nationwide, with many echoing worries about similar trends in other regions, particularly in the northern part of the country.
Voicing their frustrations, party members urged Frimpong to take decisive action against appointees failing to actively support the campaign, pointing out the detrimental effects on NPP’s electoral prospects.
One commenter, Oheneba Kofi Karikari, emphasized that appointees neglecting grassroots engagement risked jeopardizing the party’s path to victory, while another, Papa Eben, criticized internal divisions and lack of campaign support within constituencies.
Frimpong’s ongoing tour of the Bono Region included engagements with key party stakeholders across Dormaa West, Dormaa Central, and Dormaa East constituencies, aimed at rejuvenating grassroots support for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
