Majority Leader urges NPP Candidates to step up campaigns for parliamentary majority

Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has rallied New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates and party members to intensify their campaign efforts to secure a decisive victory in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto in Takoradi, Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasised the need to avoid a repeat of the current parliamentary situation, where the Akufo-Addo administration has faced challenges due to the nearly equal number of seats in a hung parliament.

“Don’t give up, let us work together… To our parliamentarians, I say Kudos to all of you. I thank you for your support through your steadfastness and resilience, although we have a very tight parliament.”

“We have a majority of one…But we have a few months ahead of us. I want to encourage you to please make yourself available to support the course of government. Let’s finish hard. There is a price awaiting us,” the Majority Leader said.

He commended incumbent parliamentarians for their support and resilience, urging them to remain steadfast in the final months leading up to the elections.

To parliamentary candidates, Mr. Afenyo-Markin also  pleaded for an end to internal disputes, instead urging them to focus on relentless campaigning.

“To all parliamentary candidates, let me plead with you enough of the reconciliation. Move on, fight hard, campaign day and night, and go to every household. We don’t have time to settle disputes,” he said.

“Fight for this party the way you fight to save a sister, fight for this party the way you save a mother, fight for this party; we need our numbers in parliament,” the Majority Leader stated.

With a slim majority of one seat, Mr. Afenyo-Markin stressed the need for collective effort to achieve a decisive victory and reap the rewards of their hard work.
