Don’t dress in Muslim attire for campaign purposes only – Vim Lady to Samira Bawumia

Samira Bawumia

Prominent media figure Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has urged Second Lady Samira Bawumia to maintain consistency in her Muslim attire.

Vim Lady observed that Samira donned a hijab during the 2012 and 2016 election campaigns to emphasize her Muslim identity.

However, post-election, Samira was frequently seen without the hijab, which has led to questions about her genuine religious affiliation.

Vim Lady cautioned that this inconsistency could negatively affect Vice President Bawumia’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections.

She highlighted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leveraging this issue as part of their campaign strategy.

“If you choose to project a liberal Islamic image, that’s one thing, but it’s crucial to be consistent with your attire, especially now that your husband is the flagbearer. The NDC is focusing on this point, and it’s not just propaganda; it reflects a real concern,” she said in a Twi video shared by One Ghana TV on YouTube.

This comes amid claims from some NDC members that Samira’s fluctuating use of Muslim attire suggests a possible attempt to downplay her Islamic identity or align more with Christian norms.
