Month-long clean up exercise climaxes at KIA and regional airports

Ghana Airports Company Limited

The Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare has announced the introduction of a QR code that allows the general public and stakeholders to report any issue related to the facility at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

She said this during the climax of a month-long clean-up exercise at Kotoka International Airport and the Regional Airports.

In her remarks, Mrs Yvonne Opare thanked staff for actively participating in the exercise and urged them to adopt the initiative as a lifestyle, taking ownership of their respective working areas and ensuring that the environment meets the internationally required standards.

She cited the adage ‘’Cleanliness is next to Godliness’’ and stressed the need to keep the airport environment clean.

She hinted that Ethiopian Airlines, an existing carrier, had finalised plans to commence a direct flight from Accra to Toronto, Canada in the first quarter of the year 2025.

This, she said will provide the travelling public with varied options for travel.

She further indicated that Virgin Atlantic Airlines was in the process of finalising plans to re-enter the Ghanaian market.

Mrs Opare also touched on the increase in international and domestic passenger traffic, which she said had surpassed the pre-covid figures.

She expressed optimism about further growth and a promising future ahead.

The month of August was declared a “clean up month” where Management and staff dedicated an hour every Friday in August for a walkthrough of the terminals and the airport environs.

The initiative was carried out by different teams aimed at identifying and addressing any issues in the passenger journey, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience.

The idea was to collectively experience the passenger journey firsthand and contribute to ensuring a pleasant travel experience at all airports.
