We must unite to combat growing financial crimes – Dame

Godfred Yeboah Dame

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called on top global actors in the fight against cross-border economic and financial crimes to step up cooperation efforts to root out the growing global phenomenon.

According to Godfred Dame, the survival of the global community is dependent on how effectively it can foster collaboration between its justice partners to combat global crime.

Godfred Yeboah Dame made this call when he delivered a keynote address at the 41st Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime at the Jesus College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

“Bearing in mind the motives and modus operandi of the perpetrators of financial crime, far-reaching institutional reform in the form of the building of a strong legal framework has been deliberately undertaken by the Republic of Ghana to trace the assets of criminals and ensure that wrongdoers do not profit from the crimes they commit.

“I refer to the Economic and Organised Crimes Office Act of 2011, which was passed to establish the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) as an agency to prevent and detect organised crime as well as to facilitate the confiscation of the proceeds of crime.”
