Not injured! Thomas Partey’s absence clarified

Thomas Partey

This update has reignited long-standing concerns among Ghanaians, with many questioning Partey’s commitment to the Black Stars.

Arsenal star Thomas Partey will miss Ghana’s crucial doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, sparking doubts and concerns about his commitment to the national team.

Despite featuring prominently in Arsenal’s Premier League campaign this season, including a stellar 84-minute performance in the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Southampton on October 5, Partey has been ruled out of the upcoming international fixtures. His absence comes as a surprise, especially given that he has avoided the injury troubles that plagued him last season.

The 30-year-old midfielder had initially been named in coach Otto Addo’s 25-man squad for the qualifiers against Sudan. However, on the same day Arsenal confirmed Partey was joining the Black Stars in camp for the crucial game, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) released a statement indicating that Partey, along with three other players, had withdrawn from the team.

“Thomas is unable to join the Black Stars due to medical issues he is currently experiencing, and his club has scheduled him for further tests in the coming days,” the GFA confirmed on Monday.

This update has reignited long-standing concerns among Ghanaians, with many questioning Partey’s commitment to the Black Stars.

However, a close source within the GFA has reiterated that Partey is not injured but is currently dealing with an illness. Arsenal requested that he remain in London for further medical tests rather than undertake international travel.

This clarification counters rumors that the midfielder faked an injury. Partey has started every Premier League game for Arsenal this season and played full matches in both of Ghana’s international fixtures last month.

As Partey remains in London to recover, the Black Stars will have to navigate these pivotal matches without their captain.
