Manchester United sack underperforming manager Erik ten Hag

Club seeks fresh leadership after a disappointing start to the season.

Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after a tenure lasting two and a half years.

The former Ajax manager received the news from the club’s board on Monday morning, less than a day after United’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

Ten Hag, who was appointed with high hopes of rejuvenating United, saw his role end amid growing concerns over the club’s position in both the Premier League and European competitions.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had joined as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, will step in as interim manager as United look to stabilise.

The West Ham loss marked the club’s sixth defeat in nine league games, leaving them in a lowly 14th place with just three wins.

Their performance in the Europa League also compounded Ten Hag’s difficulties, as United sit 21st out of 36 teams in the table—a position far below expectations.

The latest decision marks another chapter in United’s search for stability since their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013.
