Sekondi

The two-week old baby allegedly sold for GHC300 at Nkotompo, a community in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region has been found under a very strange circumstance.

Maame Esi, elder sister of the baby’s mother told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FMs Omanbapa Morning Show on October 28, that they found the baby around 2:00am, Monday, right at the doorsteps of the mother’s residence at Nkotompo.

She suspects someone might have placed the baby there in the dark of the night.

“I was asleep when someone alerted me that a baby has been abandoned on the doorstep of my sister. I quickly got there and it was the baby who has gone missing. We still do not know who brought the baby at that time, but we have come to the Police station to lodge an official complaint”, she indicated.

At the office of the Western Region Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), the baby could be seen wrapped in a cloth. He looks hale and hearty.

Emmanuel Bans, unit Committee Chairman of Nkotompo Electoral Area, indicated that the person who dropped the baby also left a bag which contained a note.

“We opened the bag and found baby foods and a note, but we cannot reveal its content to you right now. We have handed over everything we found in the bag to the Police to assist in investigations. For now, whoever dropped the baby remains mysterious. We have left all in the hands of the police to investigate”, he noted.

Two persons, Mena Efuwa, the mother of the baby, and another, Aisha, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They are alleged to have sold the baby to an unknown person for an amount of money. Initially, the mother of the baby told family members that she received only GHC300 from the intermediary, Aisha.

However, after further probe, she is alleged to have confessed to receiving GHC 3000. Aisha, the intermediary, is also reported to have confessed to receiving GHC 15,000 for the baby.

Information available to Connect FM indicates that the note in the bag after the baby was found had interesting messages.
