Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom has been charged with defrauding by false pretences in an Accra Circuit Court, in a spectacular fall from grace to grass.
The 34-year-old is accused of taking $3,500 from student Benjamin Opare Addo, promising to secure a visa to the Netherlands, but failed to deliver.
Inkoom, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail of GH¢50,000 with one surety.
His lawyer noted that Inkoom had refunded GH¢7,000 and was working to repay the remaining GH¢25,100, appealing for bail based on his reputation and cooperation.
Prosecutors allege that between September and November 2023, Addo paid GH¢32,100 in instalments to Inkoom, who claimed to own S. Inkoom Travel and Tour Company.
After failing to provide the visa or refund the full amount, the case was reported to the police, leading to Inkoom’s arrest on January 11, 2024.
The case continues on December 30, 2024.
