In a dramatic turn of events, the Electoral Commission has announced the final results of the Obuasi East parliamentary election following a closely watched recount and re-collation process.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, has been declared the winner, retaining his seat in the Parliament.
The recount, which was triggered by discrepancies cited during the initial collation process, drew heightened attention from political stakeholders, election observers, and residents.
Officials from both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) closely monitored the exercise, which took place under strict security protocols at the Greater Accra Regional Office in Accra.
After the re-collation, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom garnered 18558 of the total votes cast and Samuel Aboagye of the NDC garnered 18539. Independent Candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, also polled 424 votes.
