The Ghana Rugby Board has suspended its board chairman, Mr. Herbert Mensah, for abusing his office during his time as the chairman of the board.
According to a statement signed by an elected Board Member who doubles as an appointed Secretary, Mr. Bismark Amponsah, the decision was taken at a board meeting held via Zoom on May 11, 2021.
Meanwhile, the elected Vice President and elected Board Member, Mr. James Nunoo has been appointed by the board to act as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.
A Special General Meeting, where a new Board will be constituted either by election or appointment is expected to be organized on June 8, 2021, the statement added.
Prior to his appointment as President of Ghana Rugby, Mensah was appointed to the executive of the Greater Accra Rugby Association (GARA) in May 2014.
Mensah’s progressive development of the rugby game in Ghana and in compliance with world rugby standards over the past few years gained greater recognition in 2019 when he was appointed a member of the Africa Rugby Executive committee.
