Immigration Personnel Clash With Ga South Chiefs Over Ban On Noise Making

A combined team of  Ghana’s immigration personnel from Accra and Kasoa has been subjected to severe beating by the kinsmen (Asafo) of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Traditional Council for violating the restrictions on ban on noise making during the Homowo season.

According to reports gathered by obaatanparadioonline’s Mireku Nyampong, the Immigration Personnel were attending the one-week funeral observation of their late colleague, Inspector Gideon Doh at Iron City, an administrative town in the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly.

The kinsmen trooped to the funerals grounds chanting war songs and displaying placards showing various inscriptions of displeasure, to halt the ocassion in violation of the ban on noise making in the Traditonal Area ahead of this year’s Homowo Festival, he added.

But the Immigration personnel did not pay heed to them, since according to them the place did fall under the Ga south Municipal Authority, but rather in Awutu Senya Municipality in the Central region.

Narrating his side of the story, one of the kinsmen who spoke with our reporter also argued that the exact prescinct falls under the Ga South Traditional Council, and therefore any customs including ban on noisemaking guarding the Traditional Authority also affects the town.

Detailing the severity of damages caused as a result of the scuffle, Mireku Nyampong reports that many properties have been destroyed, as well as injuries caused to many of the people which has led to their hospitalization.

The District Commander of Police at Amanfro Division, Supt. Augustine Okanta Ocrah has confirmed the incident. According to him no arrest has officially been effected, but assured that the police has initiated investigations to bring the actual people behind the fracas to book.

Meanwhile the Ga South Traditional Council at Ngleshie Amanfro led by Nii Kwashie Gborlor (IV) has, in a press conference, issued a one week ultimatum to the authorities in charge of the 2 communities to bring final determination to the issue, or risk public disturbance.
