The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in the Gomoa East District Command have arrested a 52-year-old Ebenezer Atuobi Asante, an electrician, for defiling his would-be 10-year-old stepdaughter at Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District in the Central region.
According to information as reported by obaatanparadioonline’s Mireku Nyampong, the mother of the victim, identified as Akua Asantewa is a concubine to the suspect.
The information further reveals that the victim (name withheld) has been staying with the suspect for the past three (3) years due to the demise of the biological father. The mother, Akua Asantewa, however, left the daughter in the care of the concubine and left for the final funeral rites of the late husband.
The suspect, according to the report, however, took advantage of Akua Asantewa’s absence and defiled the 10-year-old on multiple occasions.
Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit in Kasoa, ASP Doris Laryea Aggrey, confirming the report revealed that the victim upon realizing she could not bear the trauma she was going through any longer, confided in her school proprietress, who in turn made an official report at the Police Station.
ASP Laryea also added that a doctor’s examination conducted on the victim confirmed that the victim’s hymen had been broken due to several penetrations made through her vagina.
Upon investigations, the victim was rounded up on Monday, 24th May 2021, and would be processed for court on Wednesday, 26th May 2021, she added.
The victim, according to ASP Doris Laryea Aggrey, is battling psychological trauma but is a little stable. She added that the victim is however being taking through clinical counseling for her to recover fully.
ASP Doris Laryea Aggrey has however sent a stern warning to men who have developed the bad habit of abusing minors sexually. She added that any man who would be arrested for a similar or same offense would be made to face the full rigors of the law.
