A nationwide strike will cost businesses billions of cedis – Ghana Employers Association cautions Organised Labour

Organized Labour

With only twenty-four hours to Organized Labour’s nationwide strike, the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) has appealed to them to call off the strike.

According to the Association any nationwide strike by Organised Labour will have dire impact on the businesses of employers.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Alex Frimpong, who spoke exclusively to our labour correspondent, Daniel Opoku, proposed dialogue between the two parties to avert the strike.

“We are working with them and see how we can resolve this matter. Look, there are so many means of resolving this matter. So, let’s see the measures that will be put in place,” he said.

“If at the end of the day these measures can address the galamsey issue, I think we are in full support. Already, businesses are suffering so to have the nation come to a standstill will have dire economic and businesses consequences on all of us,” Mr Frimpong added.

He stated that “So, we will really want to engage Organised Labour and draw the attention of the consequences and collectively we can sit down and resolve the problem.”

Mr Frimpong emphasised that, “We are still appealing to organised labour to review the situation and work together with us, because when they embark on a nationwide industrial action, it will have very very expensive cost on businesses. I do not have the figure off hand, but I can assure you that it will be running into millions and billions, Organised Labour must dialogue.”
