The Ghana Police Service has denied reports that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector General of Police (IGP) personally invited Abronye DC to report himself.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC who appeared in court on Wednesday was arrested over his claims that former President John Mahama is involved in a coup plot with some Al-Qaeda militants.
He reported himself to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command to assist in investigations on Tuesday upon an invitation, but later detained and charged him with two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.
He was processed for court on Wednesday and granted a Ghc100,000 bail over the said allegations.
However, reports making rounds indicate that the IGP lured Abronye DC to come and write his statement at the police station, with the intention of detained.
Reacting to this in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peacefm’s “Kokrokoo” Morning Show, the Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Kwesi Ofori debunked those reports insisting that “the invitation came from the Service and not the IGP.
“….disregard that kind of information,” he urged.
