Pig Fever

The veterinary Office of the Agric Directorate in Jaman North District has discovered an outbreak of African Swine Fever which has attacked several pigs and killed over 200 pigs within a week in seven (7) pig farms in the District.

The virus according to the veterinary officer was first detected and confirmed at Jankufa, a community in the Jaman North District in the Bono Region.

Some of the affected farmers told Obaatanpa radio reporter farmers their ordeals saying “the death rate of our pigs is extremely worrisome hence government and the Jaman North district assembly should support them”.

They made this appeal at a sensitization program organized by the Jaman North agriculture directorate and the veterinary officer for the pig farmers and other stakeholders on how to combat the spread of the virus within and outside the district.

The farmers, therefore, pleaded with the government, the Jaman North district directorate and other stakeholders to support them financially to be able to recover from the losses.
