Agbogbloshie Onion Sellers Association in the Greater Accra Region has refused to relocate to Adjen Kotoku as Regional Minister ordered.
According to them, relocating from Agbogbloshie to Adjen Kotoku is an unfortunate decision by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey issues a seven-week ultimatum period for onion traders in Accra to relocate from Agbogbloshie to Adjen Kotoku, a community within the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Hon. Henry Quartey says, his outfit will be compelled to demolish the Agbogbloshie Onion market in the first week of July 2021.
The decongestion exercise is part of the Minister’s “Let’s make Accra” campaign to improve conditions in the national capital.
In response to this, the organizer for Agbogbloshie Onion Sellers Association, Alhaji Saani Abubakar says the Association will not relocate to Adjen Kotoku.
Alhaji Saani Abubakar speaking to Obaatanpa News reporter Mireku Nyampong, reiterated that there is no bank in Adjen Kotoku, their roads are bad and the market shells do not fit for onions as part of perishable foods which easily spoil when not kept safe.
Some of the onion traders appealed to the government to desist its decision because Adjen Kotoku is not safe for their work.
