Asante Kotoko Runs To CAS Over Lamptey’s 30 Month Ban For Match-Fixing

Ghana Premier League (GPL) Champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have hinted they will be heading to the Court Of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in their quest to overturn the ban placed on their player, Richmond Lamptey for match-fixing.

Richmond Lamptey was caught up in the match manipulation scandal between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies during the 2020/2021 GPL season where the Miners beat Allies by 7-0.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee after concluding its investigations meted out various punishments to all those involved. Lamptey who was with Allies at the time was found complicit along with other players and were banned from all football related activities for the next 30 months.

However, the Disciplinary Committee announced its verdict the following season when Lamptey had already joined the Porcupine Warriors. Asante Kotoko are clearly not happy with the verdict and are heading to CAS in a bid to overturn it.

“Management this morning have directed our legal team to begin processes at the Court of Arbitration for Sport ( CAS ), in respect of the Richmond Lamptey’s appeal.” The club tweeted via its official Twitter handle.
