Veteran Ghanaian sports journalist, Dan Kweku Yeboah, has revealed that the last time he met Christian Atsu, the deceased footballer gifted him a jersey and $400.
Dan Kweku Yeboah made this revelation as he reminisced about Atsu’s life and his now well-documented love for philanthropy.
According to the Peace Fm journalist, he last met Christian Atsu in 2019 when the Black Stars was in Egypt for the African Cup of Nations and he was there as a spokesperson for the Normalisation Committee.
Yeboah said he spoke to Atsu following the player sustaining an injury. He advised Atsu to stay if the injury wasn’t too serious but after a scan, the player realised it was serious and left the camp.
Kwaku Yeboah said before Atsu left, he came to see him and gifted him a jersey an $400.
“In 2019 that was the last time I had a personal interaction with him when we went to the 2019 AFCON. He got injured before the tournament so I went to him and urged him to stay with the team if his injury recovery period is not long so he plays if the team progresses out of the group stage,” he said on Peace FM.
“He came to my room after and said the scan doesn’t look good so he has to go back. So he gave me a jersey and $400. That was the last time I had a personal encounter with him.
“Since then, maybe WhatsApp, but I have never seen him annoyed because every human being has that side but I have never seen him angry before,” he added.
Atsu was discovered dead on Saturday, February 18th 2023 after going missing in the earthquake that thit Turkey on Monday, February 6th.
Since his death, stunning stories about his generous acts have emerged, including comic actor Akrobeto revealing Atsu gifted him 800 euros when they had never even met before!
