Barcelona Femení Expelled From Copa de Reina For Fielding An Unqualified Player

FC Barcelona Women have been expelled from the Copa de la Reina after fielding an ineligible player in their 9-0 thumping of Osasuna in the last-16 of the competition.

The Catalans strolled past los Rajillas where the unqualified player Geyse Ferreira scored the fourth goal.

Osasuna protested Ferreira’s eligibility and asserted she was sent off for Madrid CF in the same competition last season and should not have been allowed to play.

It has been established that Ferreira has not fully served her suspension as the ban was still in effect to this term. Meaning she was suspended for the Osasuna game.

The Spanish FA (RFEF) have fined Barcelona €1001 (£884) for their actions and has also thrown the club out of competition.

But the club argued that the suspension did not reflect on RFEF’s website ahead of the game hence their decision to field the player. They have ten days to appeal the decision.

Osasuna will replace Barcelona in the quarterfinals.
