Bayer Leverkusen Appoints Xabi Alonso As Their New Head Coach

Bundesliga outfit Bayer 04 Leverkusen have announced Xabi Alonso as their new head coach with immediate effect.

The ex Liverpool and Real Madrid player has signed a contract until 2024 and his first match will be against Shalke 04 on Saturday.

This follows the sacking of Gerardo seoane after almost one and half years with the club.

Leverkusen has endured a difficult start to season, managing only one win in Bundesliga and lost two of their first three champions league games.

The Spaniard made 815 appearances for club and country during his playing career and won 17 trophies, including three Bundesliga and one LaLiga titles among other laurels.

He won the World Cup and two Euros with the Spanish nation team.

“I know Leverkusen as an excellent club from my time in Germany. Bayer Leverkusen has always had great players, I also see a lot of quality in the current squad. This task excites me a lot.” Xabi said during his unveiling.
