The Black Galaxies of Ghana have beaten their Nigerian counterparts 5-4 on penalties to qualify for the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Algeria.
The Super Eagles B came close yet so far as two second half goals put them back on level pegging before being dispatched on penalties under the marquee lights of Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Ghana went into the game with one foot already in Algeria following a 2-0 victory from the first encounter in Ghana over the past week.
Nigeria tried in a failed attempt to get an early goal to set the tone for a possible ‘comeback’ as coach Annor Walker’s men held firm to their 2-0 aggregate in the entire first 45 minutes.
The hosts however reduced the deficit through Zulkifilu Muhammad midway through the second half before Nnamdi Akuneto scored the much needed equalizer in the dying embers to drag the game to penalty shootouts.
The Super Eagles B missed one of their spot kicks (third) as Ghana tuck away all their five to secure the win and book a ticked to the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria.
