C/R Buduburam Eviction DCE Describes Action As Unlawful.

The District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm has described as unlawful an attempt of a private land owner to evict one thousand residents from Suncity, a suburb of Buduburam. He has also spoken against the involvement of police in the said activity.

Scores of residents of Suncity, a suburb of Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the central region had their personal belongings thrown out of their apartments by a private land owner on Thursday March 30, 2023.

According to the private land owner who is a litigant in a land dispute, he had secured a court ruling against traditional authorities of the area who sold lands to the residents about some 25 years ago.

According to what Mireku Nyampong has gathered, the residents had already made some payments to the land owner as part of a renegotiation agreement to repurchase the lands from him.

But, the land owner invaded the community with his personally formed task force and police personnel from the Central East regional command to evict all residents who resided in apartments that fall within the 15 acre stretch of land.

There was no mercy as residents both young and old including the sick were thrown out.

Addressing the media following an engagement with the affected property owners and tenants of the area, the DCE for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm described the action as unlawful because the Assembly had no foreknowledge of the exercise. He said the private land owner and the police failed to follow established due processes.

Some residents and property owners of the area also spoke to Mireku Nyampong applaud the DCE for his swift intervention.

They say the exercise caused damages to their electronic gadgets and loss of some personal belongings.
