Central Regional Minister, Hon. Marigold Assan accompanied by some officials from National Disaster Management Organization, Highway Authorities and security personnel visited the flood scene to inspect the havoc caused by the rain at Okyereko
On 5th May, 2024, Gomoa Okyereko Ayensu river overflowed it banks to submerged about 150 homes in Gomoa Mampong and Gomoa Adawukwa after the contractors who are working on Kasoa – Cape coast highway blocked the main bridge at Gomoa Okyereko to construct ultramodern bridge.
The move by the contractor has caused a serious mayhem on the highway as the river has over-topped the the bridge, flooded to Communities around and submerged the main road which has affected motorist who ply the road.
Addressing the media, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan stated that considering the loss of properties and devastating caused by the floods, assured of urgent interventions to tackle the mayhem caused by the river.
Hon. Minister also assured of relief items from the NADMO to support the affected victims.
However, Regional NADMO Director, Mr. Isaac Mensah said, the problem is just an unfortunate, is not something they expecting but has happened hence he urged all the affected victims to calm down.
Also, he entreats the people to not build their homes in waterways to help avert such circumstances.
He added that, the affected victims have been move to a near by church by NADMO.
