The three women involved in the stealing of a baby in Kasoa have been granted bail by the Ofaakor Circuit Court.
The three suspects Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28, Faustina Binney, 32 and Eunice Koomson 36 were arrested by the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service on Friday 19TH July 2024.
The suspects who pretended to be offering help to mother of the one week old baby at the time she was eight months pregnant deceived her that they were taking the baby to Korle-Bu for treatment at the recommendation of medical staff at the Kasoa Polyclinic just the day she delivered.
They however returned later to inform the mother that the baby died while at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital raising suspicions.
Police investigations however uncovered that the baby was alive and being kept by one of the suspects, Eunice Koomson at Ablekuma in Accra.
According to the charge sheet presented in court by police investigator ,Inspector Amos Kudah all the three suspects have been charged with two counts which are conspiracy to commit crime namely child stealing and child stealing contrary to Section 23 (1) and 93 of Act 29/60.
The court presided over by Isaac Oheneba Kufuor has granted the accused persons bail with three sureties and amount of Ghc10000 after counsel of the suspects Abdul Aziz Mohammed pleaded so. The suspects were remanded at their first appearance in court on Monday July 22nd 2024
The counsel pleaded for bail base on the fact that his clients are mothers and have been away from their children for a while now hence the need to allow them to go home and take good care of their children whiles the case continuous in court.
The accused are to reappear before court on 7th August 2024.
