CAF Unveils African Super League

The Confederation of African Football has launched the African Super League — a new Inter club competition, which will begin in August 2023.

The competition is expected to ‘grow the value of football in Africa through investments, sponsors, development funds and infrastructure’.

The league will involve 24 clubs, eight from each one of the three regions representing 16 different countries across the continent with a prize money of $100 million with $11.6 million going to the ultimate winner.

Football federations across Africa will be payed an amount of $54 million each year with the money coming from league’ earnings.

The competition will be supported and supervised by CAF.

Similar competition was suggested by few elite European clubs but the idea met strong opposition from clubs and fans across Europe rendering it dead from arrival.
