Carabao Cup: Man United Clinch First Trophy In Six Years

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the Caraboa Cup final at Wembley to clinch their first trophy in six years.

Newcastle started the game on the front foot and dominated possession but failed to convert the few chances that came their way and Manchester United contained and took them by surprise.

Casemiro put the Red Devils ahead after 33 minutes before Marcus Rashford’s shot deflected off Sven Botman for the second six minutes later as Erik ten Hag ends Man United trophy drought.

Newcastle came from the break with a much improved performance but they just could not get around Man United’s rearguard.

It was the first final for the Magpies since their defeat to the same opposition in the 1999 FA Cup.

Both sides went into the game desperate for a win that could set the tone for a brighter future and it was the United side with experienced players that came out on top.

For ten Hag this might be the first of many trophies to come but for Newcastle they will need to do more than just the current squad if they want to be up there with best.
