Manchester United have beaten Nottingham Forest home and away in the Carabao Cup semifinal to book their spot at Wembley with Newcastle United.
The return leg was barely a mere formality for the Red Devils after they won the first leg 3-0 at the City Ground last week.
Nottingham did well by keeping United at bay in the entire first half but it was always going to be difficult for Steve Cooper’s side to find their way back into the tie.
Anthony Martial gave United the lead midway through the second period from 10 yards out before Fred guided the second in from close range to secure a Wembley place.
Erik ten Hag will lead his side to the final on 26 February to slug it out with Newcastle United.
Manchester United are yet to win a trophy since their Europa League success under Jose Mourinho in 2017, having lost in the FA Cup final in 2018 and the Europa League final in 2021.
That is the club’s worst trophy drought in four decades.
