Chelsea has completed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on a two-year deal for 12 million euros. The 33-year-old becomes the sixth senior signing of the summer window for the Blues.
The Gabon international began his senior club career at AC Milan, but never appeared for the club as he went on a series of loan spells in France. He moved to Saint-Étienne in 2011. There, he won a Coupe de la Ligue title and joined Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
In 2018 he joined Arsenal in a club record transfer worth £56 million (€60 million), making him the most expensive Gabonese player of all time.
The former Arsenal captain joined Barcelona in 2022 after his contract with the Premier League giants was cancelled by mutual consent. He spent seven months at Camp Nou where he scored 13 goals in 23 appearances for the Catalans, helping them rise from sixth in La Liga to finish as runners-up.
On becoming a Chelsea player, Aubameyang said: ‘I’m really happy. It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start. I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting.’
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said: “Pierre-Emerick is an elite striker with a proven track record in the Premier League and his arrival strengthens our squad, giving us new attacking options. We are thrilled to have Pierre-Emerick on board with us in the new era at Chelsea and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”
He won the FA Cup with the Gunners in 2020, adding to trophies collected with Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Saint-Etienne in France.
