Coalition of Concerned Nzema People to take legal action against Petroleum Hub Project

The Coalition of Concerned Nzema People has threatened to take legal action against the government over the proposed private sector-led petroleum hub project.

This comes after the Office of the Presidency rejected a petition filed by the group challenging the acquisition of 20,000 acres of land by the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation for the project.

The Presidency insists that the scheduled sod-cutting ceremony for the project will proceed as planned.

Reacting to the development, an Executive Member of the Coalition of Concerned Nzema People, Isaac Kojo Ndede, said the group will seek legal redress if the government fails to heed their grievances.

“If you have to consult, is it somebody who does not own even an acre of the land that you have to consult or you have to maybe pass through him to get the right people and engage them? You see when you do first-class engagement and avoid the right people in the villages, do you expect that they will allow you to go scout-free and get the land?

“The way these things are being handled is what we are challenging and we are telling them that that is not the best way. If nothing at all, the best way is to seek legal action and that one is a must.”
