As the country of Colombia’s first black vice president, Francia Márquez proudly displayed her African heritage by donning a Ghanaian Kente.

Francia Márquez is the first black person to hold the office of vice president in a South American country.

After failing to win the Colombian presidential election, she became Gustavo Petro’s running mate in the Historic Pact party.

They prevailed in the second round of voting, which took place on June 19, 2022.

On August 7, 2022, they will be inaugurated as Colombia’s president and vice president with Gustavo Petro.
