Liverpool got the better side of City who pipped them to the English premier league last season by just one point.
Haaland labored throughout the game. The former Borussia Dortmund forward came close to registering his first goal in a competitive match for the Citizens in few instances but was not sharp in front of goal.
The Norwegian had the chance to set the stage for a possible comeback for Pep Guardiola’s men, but failed to hit the target from close range with his effort hitting the crossbar.
Darwin Nunez was a second half substitute (super sub) but the 30+ minutes he spent on the pitch did the trick for Liverpool.
Julian Alvarez canceled out Trent Alexander-Arnold’s first half strike for City midway through the second half but Nunez was on hand to change the narrative of the game.
His first effort was a one-on-one but his strike hit the face of Ederson who was advancing. The Uruguay international had another chance to score but his header was blocked by the arm of Ruben Dias and VAR came to the rescue of Liverpool. Salah stepped up and converted the penalty with brazen precision.
Nunez was not done yet, he added the third with a header from close range to ensure the Reds crossed the finish line unscathed.
This is the first Community Shield triumph for Liverpool in 16 years.
