Nigerian artist D’Banj has been arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Offences Commission, ICPC.
Born Dapo Oyebanjo, also known in the music scene as D’Banj is said to have been arrested over fraud allegations and other offenses.
According to reports, D’Banj was reportedly colluding with some government officials to divert funds for the government youth empowerment initiative, N-Power. D’Banj is said to have worked with government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme where they diverted millions of Naira in the process.
However, the monies diverted from the scheme were said to have been transferred into an account that has been linked to D’Banj.
According to an insider, D’Banj has refused to be interrogated by ICPC giving excuses that he traveled oversea and also performed outside the country until a warrant was issued for his arrest by the ICPC anywhere in Nigeria and abroad, forcing him to show up at the commission’s office on Tuesday.
D’Banj has reportedly been denied bail. However, there’s been no official statement from the ICPC spokesman, Azuka Ogugua, or a member of D’banj’s team.
