Renowned pollster and lead researcher at Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, has advised President John Mahama against removing the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Dankwa, the IGP’s performance and leadership skills have made him the most popular security chief in recent history.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, he also called on the Supreme Court to expedite its ruling on the case regarding the removal of security heads by an incoming president.
“The Supreme Court reserves the right to decide which cases it must expedite for quick resolution. The application for a ruling on the removal of security heads by presidents, I would have thought, would have been deemed urgent due to the pending election, as a new government would require clarity on the matter before taking any action,” he wrote.
Dankwa questioned why the court had not prioritized the case, especially with reports that the IGP’s position is now at risk.
“The court sat on this case, which to me is more important than many of the cases they expedited for quick resolution. Now we are hearing the IGP is on the chopping board. Did the court not see this coming, or did they not think government was going to change?” he asked.
He further emphasized the importance of timely justice, drawing parallels to past judicial decisions.
“Justice delayed is justice denied, just like the way the court handled Domelevo’s case. I don’t know IGP’s issues, but he is the most popular IGP in recent history. If I were the president, I would not have fired the IGP,” he stated.
Dankwa’s remarks come amid similar concerns raised by Imani Ghana over reported government plans to remove Dr. Dampare.
