Dumsor: PURC directs ECG to produce load-shedding timetable by April 2

PURC

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deliver a load management timetable by April 2, 2024, in response to ongoing issues with internet connectivity and power disruptions affecting Ghanaians.

Despite recent interruptions in power supply, ECG has clarified that a load-shedding timetable is currently unnecessary.

However, the company has linked the crisis to 630 overloaded transformers during peak hours, signaling that these transformers in its operational zones are handling more than their capacity due to the escalating electricity demand.

In a statement released on Monday, March 18, 2024, PURC mandated ECG to provide a comprehensive load management timetable, including details such as ratings and current loadings of overloaded distribution transformers, GPS locations of these transformers, ratings of new transformers to be installed, installation timelines, load management schedules, and proof of information dissemination to consumers.
